- GAO: urgent policy concerns for transition/new administration – Many of the urgent policy concerns identified here are critical and time sensitive and require prioritized federal action. They are issues that require a focus from the transition team and new administration because if they are not dealt with, they could have great implications for life, well being, or the confidence of citizens in government, or because they have key quickly approaching dates where a decision must be made or actions taken. Consequently, these issues are not necessarily the most important issues in the long term, but rather those that must be dealt with immediately.

Fannie Freddie Phony – Paul Krugman Blog – NYTimes.com.
Klugman takes Arnold Schwarzenegger to task for his false statement about a Fannie/Freddie connection to the subprime mortgage crisie. He comes to the conclusion that the phony account of the crisis is now part of Republican orthodoxy: “part of what you have to believe to be a respectable member of the party.”
Nothing can be solved at the governmental level when politicans believe the lies of their own spinmasters, and the neocons have such a great machine in place that it even fogs reality for those that are in positions of governance.

I have over 4,000 Books in my personal library. If your are interested I have an Amazon.com “bookstore” where I list a few of the books dealing with Cybernetics in general (and focused on my attempts to come to grips with the nature of viable systems) that have had a profound impact on me.
I’ve also started an online catalog on Goodreads (currently it includes about 1,600 of the books in my library), and I will slowly be trying to get the rest of my collection entered there as time permits.

From the cover: “Since September 11, 2001, the Bush administration has relentlessly invoked the word “freedom.” Al-Qaeda attacted us because “they hate our freedoms.” The United States can strike preemptively because “freedom is on the march.” Social Security should be privatized in order to protect individual freedoms. In Whose Freedom?, Lakoff surveys the political landscape and offers an essential map of the Republican battle that seeks to capture the hearts and minds of Americans — and shows how progressives can fight to reinvigorate this most beloved of American political ideas.”
