Electronic Product Code (EPC) is a 96-bit code, created by the Auto-ID Center, that proponents claim will one day replace barcodes. In this January 2004 article in the RFID Journal by By Jonathan Collins describes an EPC database devised by ObjectStore:

collect and process in real time the vast amount of data produced by
EPC networks.”
